The idyllic sloping vineyards of the family-owned Tantalus Estate sits in the heart of the Onetangi Valley, Waiheke Island’s renowned wine growing region. We are dedicated to producing a boutique range of blended red and single varietal white wines from our fully sustainable vineyard and winery. Our vines were first planted in 1998 with grape varietals well suited to the terroir and warm microclimate of Waiheke Island. The vineyard is home to Bordeaux and Rhone varietal reds as well as Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. The site is sheltered, free draining and low vigour. These natural factors combined with our precise attention to detail in the vineyard, low cropping levels and open canopies produce fruit which is deeply coloured, luxuriantly flavoured and exhibits full ripe tannins.
We are dedicated to producing wines of uncompromised quality through a balance of traditional and innovative winemaking. We hand select the best clusters row by row before the grapes are again sorted by hand in the winery. The grapes go through a slow controlled fermentation and maceration process before they are basket pressed and gently transferred to a range of select french oak barriques. Unfined and lightly filtered, our finished wines are sealed under natural cork allowing continued evolution in the bottle. Careful cellaring of our reserve range will be rewarded.
